An entitled perspective. Just like you can't force me to buy your art, I don't owe it to you to empty my pockets for the sake of your passion remaining profitable. Unless you also cry for all the laborers replaced by the modern technologies you use, you deserve no sympathy.
It costs nothing to create art, you could go out and make art in dirt with a stick, you can make art with shit you already have in your house. YOU want something extravagant and that's not a requirement, anyone can make art xP no AI needed
And YOU can get money in whichever way you want. YOU want the privilege of your dream job being attainable at my expense. Anybody can make money, you being an artist was never a requirement.
I also want to understand how you not wanting to pay for a service then makes it okay for you to steal from the people who provide that service, if art isn't worth your money then don't have the art, that's but privileged, you work a job and you get paid for it, but artists shouldnt be?
I work a job because it's in demand. I'm not entitled to that and if it became unprofitable, I'd pick something else, not say that people should HAVE to hire me and not doing so is unethical. Sounds a little childish, doesn't it?
Unless you learning from countless examples of art you've seen was also theft, no one was stolen from. An algorithm observed some art, and learned. So have you. Perhaps "your" (see? Artists in general) art isn't worth my money, but the AI stuff gets the job done.
YOU want me to pay you, fortunately that isn't required. I can get art from whichever source I please, but you telling me I ought to pay you for your own economic well being doesn't make your offer any more tempting.
I DONT EVEN TAKE COMMISSIONS???? imagine thinking I could only advocate for artists and their art because it financially benefits me...I work a job, I pay my own way, and I do art for the love of it, be well and heal
Obviously the "you" is addressed to entitled artists in general. I don't make or need art. So no, I wasn't going to commission anyone anyways. Likewise, I'm defending those you disparage by insisting it's unethical to choose the cheaper option, this isn't about me.
The cheaper option would be to make your own art, not to steal others, that's what I said first, to be honest I think all AI and all jobs being taken by machines is shitty, there's nothing in place right now that protects the average person, shitting on other people isn't the way tho
I recently visited a geek merch shop I used to buy stuff from over ten years ago. They now use AI art of licensed characters like Iron Man for their category splash art.
They have had a pretty decent popularity back when from what I remember, so that was heartbreaking to see.
The one upside is that, with it, shops make their awful business practices and policy very easy to see and avoidable. Now I can happily look somewhere else.
I just talked friend of mine from using AI slob to generate his content.
1. It was doing a poor job and was full of lies easy to disprove.
2. Everyone can see it and it would go against what he's trying to say in his content creating a very dishonest image of his.
3. Gotta support your local arts
I have bunch of mates who are musicians, digital artists etc. they're extremely smart passionate talented people and have it rough. Often get stiffed when it comes to getting paid for their work.
And yeah! They love to collab with people. Because they get to do what they love.
Yeah but is a single person sharing this actually paying an artist? Or has ever done that?
Because I actually have and it's incredibly expensive and slow. No one I know would ever do that, ever. Ever Ever. So y'all need to hate the AI companies, not the people without money.

For example, the edited comic you posted is by @extrafabulous.bsky.social.
See how that flips around?

But yeah, support actual artists.
