I am a big fan of Pillars of Eternity so this playing in the same world is a selling point - but I would have absolutely 100% preferred another CRPG over first person combat.

Same. Pillars 2 is one of my favorite games. I'm sure this will be fine but I don't expect to reach the same highs. I hope it does well so we get more games but then scared that just might lead to Avowed 2.

How does it feel compared to Obsidian’s Outer Worlds? I feel like that’s perhaps a better comparison point as it was also “smaller” in scope and had great writing but so-so everything else. If they can take the writing from that and improve combat and exploration then we may have a winner.

I generally prefer Sci-Fi/a post Apocalyptic western RPGs over sword and sorcery ones (Fable being the exception), but I’m intrigued by this one. The Outer Worlds and New Vegas were both great so it helps that it’s Obsidian doing it.

Yeah l, part of the reason they moved it was they had the AC marketing and didn’t want to go head to head with it, only for AC to get delayed right next to it anyways.

Almost everything I read here sounds great, and I've been looking forward to this for years, but can you expand on your "AA" comment in the article? Not sure what to make of that. We would consider Outer Worlds AAA yeah? So is this feeling smaller/lower budget than that in some way?

I am completely on board with Obsidian occupying the middle space with this and Outer Worlds. Smaller scale stuff with their creativity is perfect to me.

Was the stilted-looking animation we saw in previews fixed? Sounds like you didn’t see much of that.
