The corporate stuff on all these shows is beyond tedious. Succession learned how to do it from soaps of yore, so soaps should watch Succession to understand how to do meaningful family/emotional stakes again.
Yes. For instance, the hospital takeover could have been more interesting if they stuck all the players in a room at the same time, but no. Half of it was offscreen discussions and one player here, one player there. Those Succession boardroom meetings were always must see.
Even now, Y&R is telling a relatively mundane business story that solely seeks to reintroduce a reimagined character, but by putting most of the cast in the story (for at least a week) in a new setting (fake greenery, mostly), it's instantly more compelling. The longer tape days are worth it.
Definitely. All about the $$ who they can use, how often, and even where (what sets) it has to stifle creativity. We finally got JJ with his parents today just in time for them to say buh-bye.
