It gave me reverse culture shock to live in DC where everything was a 90 minute drive away because of traffic, not distance. Meanwhile, I can drive eight hours and still be physically in my home state at the moment.

i had like 5 choices of towns to find an apt in for my new job, all about 25 minutes away from where i work (i could have found a place IN amherst, but it would have been like 1k more a month minimum). thats wild to me!! you just dont get those options in more rural areas

i would love to live somewhere where i don't need to own a car, but sadly those places are so few and far between in the US, and property is across the board so much more expensive that you either need more $$$ or lower ur standard of living space-wise

i spent 2 months in nyc in undergrad and it was amazing. i lived in downtown manhattan, a 8 minute walk to a subway station, and i made sure to savor the experience bc i knew that i would never make enough $ to be able to justify moving there lmao

This has me thinkin, because I live about 20+ min from the closest "city" but I'm also technically just outside of city minutes... but theres a couple towns an hour away that I consider day trips too. LOL. I wonder if the place affects that because I'm a chronic dilly-dally-er

maybe! tbf I wouldn't WANT to make a regular round trip of 90 each way, but I've also committed like 35 minutes each way on a regular basis and that feels really minor? 90 minutes is a bit long but like.. id drive that after work to go grab furniture from FB market or something

Yeah in your case I would assume maybe you've got a routine down-pat that makes it more manageable to do long drives? cus I did the same thing when I used to drive 2 hours there + back for work and I remember not being phased by it, but three years later I've become weak again LOL

US and especially rural US is actually wild to me… you need to go alllll the way up north to get these sorts of distances and drive lengths here. i live in what’s considered the sticks and it’s still only 30 min from the big city and 2 hours in any car makes me violent
