Reliability is a "public good," and requires either investment in a gov/utility grid, or payments for sufficient ancillary services in a market (see ERCOT).
Technically, there are a number of solutions, the problem is getting regulators/customers to pay for them.

And grid reliability? Outside of hydro, backup means batteries. Expensive ones. And the sun’s still down 50% of the time.
