My mom, an American who became a Cdn - not dual citizen, stated this to tell the difference in the 2 nations: Americans want to be cheerleaders. Cdns are embarrassed to be cheerleaders. Americans yell about individualism and ensure everyone conforms. Cdns quietly go about being themselves.
It's true. Americans expect everyone to become Americanized. Canadians allow them to be themselves. Two of my grandparents were born in the US. My GG Grandfather was a Union soldier. I'm forever grateful to both G Grandfathers for bringing their entire families to Canada.
For the English speaking world, using the informal "Tu" (meaning "you") in French shows the level of friendship in their relationship. Justin was simply speaking to a good friend and not as a former PM of Canada to a former President of the United States. Makes me feel quite emotional. 🥲❤️
