4chan is just as influential as Fox News, X, instagram and Facebook. You might not realize this because of the Cambridge analytica settlement or literal uprisings catalyzed by them or because you know how numbers work but it’s actually true

Its funny, when 4chan was younger and before capital siezed it, it worked mostly for working class issues. Politics were almost never mentioned. Then capital seized it and moot left (most likely terrified) and it became what it is.
Its mainly because of its style. A huge part of anonymous posting is that each opinion has the same value. There is nothing separating a good post from a bad post except the number of replies. It is a very easy system to game if you have an organization to do so.
it’s crazy that a website high schoolers would go on to troll and be the worst versions of themselves has had more influence on 21st century politics than print media
I want to sit down the people who play up 4chan as some kind of horrifying boogeyman and make them read a +30,000 word /diy/ thread of people mocking each other’s carpentry.
Any faction which spends a disproportionate amount of their lives online and develops its own lingo/subculture will inevitably have world-changing influence on internet culture then IRL.
They devise ways to articulate long unspoken social/behavior phenomenon, so we adopt parts of their worldview.
I think there is also this mistaken belief that it is random, that with anonymity, people become racist and self-radicalise. That's the myth of the early internet.
There is an element of truth, but the reality is that the right seeks these spaces because of their lack of moderation.
