Just once I would like people to acknowledge that those appliances that could survive a nuclear blast last so long compared to modern appliances because they were significantly more expensive in real money than most modern appliances. If you bought a Sub-Zero, it would probably last forever too.

Sigh. @nytwirecutter.bsky.social has a piece up blaming federal efficiency standards for the lower lifetime of today's appliances. They cite no data or studies, notably omit contrary studies, & *aren't even right about the central claim that appliances don't last as long*.
