But can't blame them. Mastodon screw it up itself by not make platform friendly for avarage users.
Too complex only tech nerds could understand.
And some believed more in their open protocol (that btw meta's Thread use as well), ActivityPub, than bluesky's protocol (called ATProtocol).
I don't really know what differ between those two protocols.
the main difference people shoudl care about it that AT Protocol is account centric rather than server centric
Account Centric - use anywhere on any serivce
Server Cetnric - you account is explicitly tied to the server you are on so the server admin controls most things
