“Sekiro had a pause button” is really the end of the argument. Like it already happened (on the very best souls game) and the game did not significantly suffer from it so might as well keep it lol

They’ve followed a consistent design philosophy of keeping people on the same playing field. Souls doesn’t have pause due to the seamless multiplayer. Wouldn’t be fair for some to have pause while others don’t. Sekiro is purely singleplayer, so it has pause because everyone always has it.
They also already had to patch instances of people finding ways to pause the game anyway, then intentionally softlocking anyone who joined their session. Better to just not bother with an unneeded feature when the trade-offs are easily gamebreaking, and they already have a convenient autosave.
Yea that’s pretty reasonable. I just always play offline so the multiplayer aspect is lost on me but developing an online/offline flag to decide whether you can save or not is unnecessary additional work that invites a whole new set of bugs and exploits.
it makes it slightly more convenient to finish the game, and the average souls fan only cares about beating the games for bragging rights so more people being able to beat the game means its ruined for them
