Addiction is definitely the right term. Took me all of 15 minutes to delete my Twitter and meta accounts, and most of that was searching where meta had hid the delete account option.

At least for content creators I kinda get the reticence, but the average person does not "need" Twitter

yup - i was wrong on addiction/dependence on SM, thought it made up/exaggerated, and then i left facebook and twitter and encountered all the excuses not to leave them, and outside of people whos careers depend on those accounts, they were identical to stuff youd hear from an alcoholic, its wild!

To be fair, I left Facebook during the quarantine and since then, I've lost touch with pretty much every acquaintance and casual friend I've had/made in twenty years that doesn't work with me or live within an hour of me. There absolutely is a cost. Not going back, though.

yup. i will openly admit that while i am lucky that most of the friends and family close to me we kept regular contact in person and via texts/calls, but losing facebook messenger resulted in nearly a dozen friends i simply havent heard from in nearly 5 years =/

The only thing I missed about Facebook during my 2 month hiatus is the marketplace and buy nothing groups. Because I am a poor who just got laid off & thus needs to sell all my belongings to survive, and then acquire a few different belongings for free/trade.

Exactly. They need to stop with the excuses and start finding a way to move over here to actually make a difference. The site isn't gonna get any better, yet they keep finding excuses to stay out of sunken cost fallacy. All the time they spend justifying staying can be used getting started elsewhere
