A great influence on him, and my great-grandfather, was George Lansbury, the then leader of the rump of the Labour Party who went to meet Hitler and Mussolini and tried to arrange a global peace conference. This is him at my great-grandfather's house 'Foff's Corner' in Jaywick in the late 1930s.
