Remember when the SCOTUS decided to dismiss the emoluments case, after Krasnov ran out the clock in the 1st term,
As if the crime hadn't been committed
Trump appears to have always been easily “influenced” by power & money. It seems money is the must powerful force in his life. He has,in his past, committed crimes that he was successfully sued for.He has managed to stay out of a prison cell because of his “friends” in high places. Time to end that.
The most expensive gifts ever given to a president by a foreign nation (that I can find) appear to have both been valued at $100k. A set of Japanese swords to W Bush and a set of diamond encrusted cuff links from the king of Saudi Arabia to FDR.
I don't understand why big time journalists like Lipton can't ever consider context. This isn't one-off behavior from an unknown entity. Trump's whole personal philosophy is quid-pro-quo. From Pam Bondi and Trump U to arms for Biden dirt with Ukraine. Why treat this like an abstract ethics puzzle?
Same with a WaPo story on RFK. Why would you just write a story on him, when the surgeon general is a social media wellness influence with no medical background? They are appointing unqualified kooks to *everything*, but when you cover each one independently, you lose that context.
You’re hitting the perfect level of explanation and background. Yes, sadly we need to explain what seems self-evident. I appreciate you doing that work.
I guess. But there are bigger things. You aren’t wrong, but I’ve got bigger issues with CECOT, ICE, and Habeus Corpus. I feel corruption isn’t important now. Again, you’re not wrong. You explained this better than most. And I’m sure you’ve mentioned CECOT and ICE. But this is kinda small potatoes.
Donald John Trump is a walking talking violation of our Constitution. Congress MUST impeach and convict him before things get really really bad. I wish we could rely on them to uphold their oaths but every single Republican is marching behind their mad king with goose-step salutes.

Great explanation.
You know what else is bad?
The appearance of corruption.
It's the same picture.
Everyone is going to question Trump's actions toward Qatar because of that, "Is he doing this for the benefit of the US, or for the benefit of Qatar?"
This is like elementary school level civics.
