Which goes a lot toward explaining why so many over time turned to religion. "You hate this existence? Join us and you'll go to a better place after you're dead."
If everything's relative, we are probably great people in comparison. Lots of religious people rejecting the only good, prosocial bits of their beliefs right now.
Isn’t though? Once you realize it, you can kind of figure out how it manipulates you in that regard and work around it. At least, I am beginning to manage.
Prosperity Gospel says you gotta do what you gotta do and hustle every day! Toss anyone under that bus to get that bag! The absolute worst rise to the top and then they get automatic respect as a really rich person regardless of the body county to get there
I keep wondering what it could have been like to be born in to a world that wasn't so busy trying to turn me in to Patrick Bateman that I could have figured out who I am and developed as my own person rather than as a dumb tool for the wealthy to exploit until they throw me in the dumpster.
Or even just someone who ✨ wants ✨ to be a good person. I'm not a terrible person necessarily but I know I could be even better if I didn't have so much reason to be stuck in survival mode. Really hard to be a great good person with so much distrust and a tunnel vision geared towards saving 💰
We live in a system which has a singular goal. Extract and enrich. It relies on unending growth in order to give a few established members at the top near limitless wealth.
It's a Ponzi scheme for the ages. The kids today are going to be left with the bag when it collapses, also a dead planet.
And the irony is the ones who are actually insane, the ones that cause the most harm, truly are blind to the fact that they’re the bad guys. I’m not excusing their behavior, just pointing out the irony of their delusions.
As much pain as it causes me to whip out a Harry Potter quote, the thing about “no good or evil, only power and those too weak to seek it out” still strikes me as somehow maybe the most spot-on explanation for how these people think;
Like, I don’t think they even consider far enough down the line to not think they’re villains, because that doesn’t even enter into it when you fundamentally think everyone else in the world is a worm who should serve you
GOD does not allow EVIL, MEN do. The entire history of civilization is war against neighboring tribes, theft of resources, enslavement and subjugation.
Girls will be boys and boys will be girls
It's a mixed up, muddled up, shook up world

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33 KJV
The realest thing I’ve read in a minute. I often ask why I even bother, except I refuse to be any other way. The golden rule and all. I’m not even the least bit religious.
Unfortunately, caring about people has the side-effect of causing a lot of frustration, righteous anger, sadness, and anxiety. The people who don't care probably sleep like babies and will live to be 100. I still wouldn't trade places.
It's because the people who unironically believe in dragons, demons and magic make it their personal mission to have at least 10 kids a generation 💀 where the educated tend to wait until later in life and only produce 1 or 2 kids.
The morality of creating life, along with the finances and living environment are bigger factors the smarter you get. Which stacks the system against the very people capable of empathizing with logic by giving it to the people who are incapable because of their fear of a God.
If we want true happiness, we need to stop giving extra ground to people just because they're part of some ideological group. Some 'opinions' aren't just 'opinions' and deserve to be shamed. We need to stop the centrism.
I think we are here to withstand this onslaught, to remain clear in conscience and dignified in character and spirit, despite the incessant pushing and shoving on our clear values.
So hang in there. We’re needed more than ever. I don’t think we’re here to win 1/2
We've made the literal worst possible version of modern society and every year we find new ways to make it even more debilitating to exist in if you have even the vaguest hint of a moral compass. It's maddening how many people defend the status quo while actively suffering because of it.
It really does seem that way, the only thing keeping me going, is waiting to see what the history books say in 20 years... assuming history books still exist.
And people are wondering why, and making fun of, people crying over The Superman and Fantastic Four trailers. Our world is so horrible, good people need Fictional Saviors as their only way out for just a few hours before having to live in a world run by the cruel.
I drank my fill over the course of 40+ years, and decided to quit before I died (like so many of my friends had), and now my tender spirit has no numbing to protect it, and this era is really painful.
Excetpt - The Second Coming by Wordsworth:
"Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity."
Good people are always preyed on and evil always wins on a larger scope. This will never change. The only thing you can do is watch for your opportunity someday to draw blood. Force is all they understand. They will come after us and we need to be prepared to kill them.
Well said. It's empathy vs narcissism. The problem being that people who don't give a fuck about anyone but themselves have no problems shitting all over everyone else. They probably sleep fine at night too.
I used to be, but after being fucked over by every single person I helped, not so much anymore.
I still give out $5 to homeless people tho.
I hate this place and my family's survival is where I'm at now
I want to move to the wilds of Alaska, but they won't go.
So, maddening horrible world it is
the worst part is that the average person is convinced they're a charitable good person despite generally doing absolutely nothing to better the lives of those around them
We are going to see a crisis as millennials start to approach retirement age. Without any sort of social safety net and the majority of the middle class historically depending on that property value to fund their old-age, that pyramid scheme is about to crumble since millennials can't afford homes
The "charity should be voluntary and someone else should pay for it, please dont tax me because taxes are theft" people are a blight on civilised society.
True. Everyone likes to think they're the exception and are somehow morally superior to everyone else (including several of the replies here). When in reality, they are no doubt sneered at by others themselves.
Yesterday someone posted that holding ones you love close, keeping your circle strong with love helps fight fascism. So now I tell hubs when I kiss him, "Here's your anti-fascist morning kiss", and he loves it! Only way to stay sane is with your loved ones.
They've definitely had their own take on it for awhile. Pope John Paul II started things like World Youth Day, in the US you have entire weekend youth conferences like Steubenville and National Catholic.
It's easy to accept and give in to this evil, twisted world, but it says a lot about those that can still hold onto their sense of compassion in the face of adversity and isolation.
Well depends on how you look at it... if you understand the world per behaviours ...evolution and the fact that human beings are part of the animals discussion where we're made up of a bunch of organisms and some of them parasitical.. then that makes complete sense
Isn't this why we're always getting high? I just assume the reason our entire society is finding one way or another to self-medicate is a direct response to the horrors of late stage empire

May you all escape samsara.
😉 👍
And knowing that we are indeed in hell
It's only extremely depressing
It's a Ponzi scheme for the ages. The kids today are going to be left with the bag when it collapses, also a dead planet.
It doesn't mean you shouldn't do good. But it does mean you should do good without any expectation of being rewarded for it.
This is a planet of children, spiritually speaking. If that helps you understand why things are the way they are here.

It's the perfect torture for an angelic spirit.

For Hel, from Norse mythology, Midguard was hers.
Trapped in the in-between after the separation of the realms after the great war between them all.
Loki invoked the right of ragnorak and trapped everyone here until judgment day. Some "gods" were tormenting the people.

It’s reactionary self-interest all the way down.

If I could avoid humans for the rest of my life, I would.
Jesus Christ can make that irrelevant. If you can believe Him. ✡️✝️🕊
Not to mention the abundance of bad actors who *just* want to cause misery and can't be reasoned or legislated with.
And honestly mental illness is the only rational response to this irrational world.
