I think you missed the point. We know the impact on women and girls....we do...that's well documented and doesn't need to be shown. What most don't understand is the process by which a young boy is radicalised. Graham also wanted to concentrate on the perpetrators family to show it's not their fault

As I watched the series, I kept expecting the next episode to switch focus and follow the devastating impacts on Katie, her family, and her community…but it never did. Aside from a couple minutes with Katie’s friend Jade lashing out in school, Adolescence centers Jamie and the impacts on his family.

Katie is presented as a flat image in a photograph. A victim without a voice. A lost girl without expression and therefore without true humanity. The perpetrator, on the other hand, is well defined. Jamie is presented in a nuanced, troubled, and complex way. He therefore comes across as very human.

When media continues to obsessively center men's experiences, it perpetuates this male entitlement to attention.

We know the expectation of male centrality is very real because of the huge temper tantrum thrown whenever a piece of popular media (aimed at general audiences) dares to center women as more than sexual fantasies. We’ve seen it with Marvel, Ghostbusters, Barbie, anything involving Star Wars etc etc.

I just finished watching it and was thinking the exact same thing. This point is mentioned only in passing. I thought episode four was going to be about her family. the best I've seen that gives that perspective of women impacted by male violence is Woman Of The Hour.
