I’ve found that ironically Gen X is the absolute WORST at having these boundaries, as well as expecting and pushing everyone to follow suit. The generation that fancies themselves anti boomers are in denial about having the same work life balance issues as their parents.
In the 90’s my clients called me at home on Sundays with “actionable” demands for “deliverables” Monday morning. I was an adult man in the 90s. We worked…perpetually.
I agree shut everything down. Then on the next day turn it all back on. Do not put in overtime. Remind them of what life use to be most bosses don't remember!
We pretend that we are closed on Fridays. The automatic reply email message states that we'll get back to you on or shortly after our next business day (Monday).
