I agree with the note in the article about some in the Vatican saying that Leo is more "the 2nd Pope from Latin America" than the 1st US Pope. Yes, he grew up in Chicago but he spent most of his adult life in Peru. I'm not saying thats good or bad. I just think he isnt as "U-S-A" as Americans think.

Make no mistake about it: selecting a relatively liberal (by Catholic standards) American for Pope was the Vatican sending a deliberate challenge to Trump.
