The founders were *deeply* worried about *exactly* a Trump scenario. They knew all about populists because they had read their classics. That’s why they effectively put in triple-redundancy. Currently almost everything is failing, only judges are holding the line. God help us all if they fail

This is true. And this too has been tempered by the courts. The trump fascist regime is leading to the solidification of immigrant due process rights.

And we still have a very long way to go. There are horrors that we can’t even envision now on the way.
