Person centered therapy was a big part of my mental health recovery and one of the things that really stuck in my mind was my therapist saying it was like I was looking for the manual that had all the right answers, and explaining how it can't be that simple.

I believe it is a product of authoritarian systems that teach people that anything less than this is worthless and artificial and fake and that they will face destruction if they cannot perform it.
Because that was what I thought people like me were meant to do. I wasn't explicitly told to do that. I figured it out from the context I inhabited. I wasn't wrong to think that it was being encouraged. It is wrong that it is encouraged.
