as a kid in the early 1980s, I used to look forward to the Sundays when my parents would splurge ($3.50?) on the Sunday edition, which was many hundreds of pages long, and written & edited with the engaged citizen in mind. what a journey from there to this thoroughly debased institution.

It’s been nothing but daily batting practice against Trump for a decade. (Which is easy). They ignored the Biden mess, until it was too late. The last shred of legacy credibility/currency went out the door after that.

Well, I don't know what to tell you. Of the big three national papers, the Times is the only one that has maintained its independence. I value the investigative stuff, such as Trump's crypto grift, and commentators like @jamellebouie.net and @michellegoldberg.bsky.social.

I'll read it when I have to, but I won't subscribe to it. I hate paying for a games and recipes site. I read the Post when I have to as well, but I'm not giving them another dime. The Guardian does OK, the Chicago Sun-Times.

The Boston Globe is far from perfect...they employ Carine Hajjar and James Pindell...but I'm still grateful that they exist. It's close enough that they do good reporting in Rhode Island. Not like any of the local outlets are doing jack shit these days.

I cancelled shortly after the Tom Cotton temper tantrum Like him or not, he was a fucking Senator of the United States, for Christ's sake. Then the firings of editors just confirmed it for me. It's not a real newspaper anymore.
