I teach this in my food studies classes. SNAP is a powerhouse social program. (Quiz: Guess who lobbies for SNAP? Corporate grocers like WalMart. They reap profits from SNAP spending in their stores and their workforce depends on those benefits because their wages are so low)

1 in 7 Americans relies on SNAP for their food benefits.
