One thing I've come to realise, sometimes the hard way, is that shame is a *really* terrible motivator.
Given the state of the world, we need more people on side, not fewer. If they want to speak up but only see friendly voices shouted down for Doing It Wrong™, they'll stay silent or walk away.

It's *really* easy to do this when we're scared, and we often tend to. But if it leads us to driving people away, we should hesitate.

If our allies feel they need to defend themselves against us, they'll step away.
