I think Godel's oddness led to the math, not the other way around! And there's at least testimony from, as I recall, his brother, that he was this way from the beginning.
Exactly the thumbnail/title combo I thought of. I haven't watched the video because that framing turned me off, but it seems like if you want people to watch, you gotta play the clickbait game...
In my opinion Veritasium videos tend to be really good pop-science, but I too absolutely loathe the titles. Why does it have to be "The woman who proved Einstein wrong" (or current title "The Biggest Misconception In Physics") instead of "History and introduction to Noether's theorem"?!
My current working theory is basically "people are kinda dumb and have trash taste (yes, including me when it comes to most topics), and that's mostly ok and part of being people"
It's partly user behaviour, but the site always prioritised videos with high views and the practice of dramatic titles has been getting a lot worse. I can't tell if the algorithm is doing something different, or if influencers are just getting more aggressive at hacking the algorithm. Both?
Haha, I though the same about a "why is democracy impossible" video (about Arrow's impossibility theorem). I'll have too look up the one about Noether's theorem, it's something I've always been curious about, but never could find a good explainer for non-physicists. Thanks for the reference!
Something I really liked in Logicomix was the meta, in-comic discussion between the authors about whether the "insanity" angle of their story really made sense…
Set theory drives people mad!
Actual set theory: There are several concepts for how to order things. If we change them a little we get new things that are a little difference. A "partial order" isn't as mysterious as it sounds, it is what set theorists call it when the order is like a family tree.
@zachweinersmith.bsky.social I hold a grudge against Cantor. Everything in Analysis that is weird, unintuitive, complicated or outright mindboggling, is Cantor's fault!
The excessive drama of Youtube is painful. And its more painful finding people that aren't dramatic and watching them turn that way as they chase more views
I out that in my resignation letter to Google a month back. Along with a lack of control for shorts, inauguration, and a few others
I saw the thumbnail on Veritasium's video and immediately thought "Is it Cantor?" *Clicks* "It's Cantor..."
But am I the problem if I've watched three of these exact videos about him?

They called Georg Cantor mad, they called Kurt Gödel mad, they called John Nash mad!
