Anyway, I can whinge about immigration all day long. What's distressing is that even since our book came out 7 years ago, it seems just about everyone has pulled away from the vision of a more open world. It's like the only issue that unites starry-eyed idealists and grumpy economists.

The Housing Theory of Everything always wins.
NYC added the most housing units last year since 1965. They need more but the housing crisis has many more causes than just "zoning bad".
But that's a decade too late. They needed that housing for a boom of people in their 20s long ago.
And in most cities old units have more bedrooms (so vs 60s is apples to oranges), but I can't find bedroom data for NYC.
Borders for people is stupid on so many levels. We want higher gdp, more resources, taxable income, shared knowledge, cultural and economic bounties, but not from THOSE people born over there!
Why is it less oppressive at the supranational level?
Which will lead to jailing people for "moving away from their assigned job"
Turns out, that's not really a thing anywhere else.
