Even if they did catch them, it doesn't matter who they married or how much they make. Vet disability is keeping a promise to that vet, not their spouse.

Yeah, no disagreement, I just think the whole premise is absurd. Means testing always adds dumb hurdles, but they're particularly dumb when you're talking about veterans because veterans are especially likely to pass them given perfect information

Exactly. If they add this crap, it'll catch some, who don't realize they can fight it, and that pisses me off. Most veterans don't know that they can appeal stuff like this, and the process (like most of the VA) is not easy to navigate.

My understanding is that means testing almost always costs more to administer than it would have cost to simply provide the benefit to everyone who otherwise qualified and therefore doesn't actually save any money.
It's just an excuse to hurt people.

Means testing adds more red tape which drives away a nice fat chunk of the people who would actually qualify for it but don't have the capability or the paperwork to navigate the system. Collecting welfare benefits in the US of any kind is a fucking full time job.

There already is means testing for some VA disability benefits. There's none for service connected disability benefits, but to get a non-service connected disability pension for wartime vets you have to have a net worth below a certain amount.

If they were serious, they'd end concurrent receipt for military retirees receiving VA benefits, as was done until the mid-90s.
