We’ll have to see how bad the shortages are. There weren’t empty shelves during the dotcom bubble burst or 2008. That’s more like Covid except we can still go out.
For me it's the knowing how this all effects us weeks/months from now and how difficult it will be to get back "normal". And that's if the tariffs and policies get straightened out like today. I'm in logistics/supply chain management, the ripples will be felt for sure and for a long time.
The effects of the China tariffs are barely visible yet, though, since it ordinarily takes a couple of months for goods from China to show up on US retail shelves -- and retailers stocked up in advance of the tariffs, giving them extra supply. That runs out mid-May, triggering shortages.
