Spartanburg District 7 School Board meets tomorrow to vote on a policy that removes pregnancy from its anti-discrimination policy. If it passes, they can fire pregnant teachers without cause. That was happening when I became a teacher in 1966. We helped hide a teacher's pregnancy whenever anyone from central office entered our building. We can't go back to those days!!!

Let's go back to 1931 when my mom first started teaching. Her contract forbid her getting married, much less pregnant. Married in 1947, a high school principal in 1950, she wasn't fired when pregnant with me but did take the fall semester off to avoid showing her pregnancy (I was born in November).
