The current government has lived since Dec '23 with Duda in the presidential palace, who was expected to veto anything rolling back any PiS bills from 2015-23, or anything the right wing disagrees with. So they could do *some* things, but nothing controversial. But the whole plan from the beginning…

… was that when they get their man in the palace, then they would finally start doing all those things they campaigned on in '23. So now that's just not happening. The mess that PiS left us with is locked in, and the government needs to continue until '27 (if they last) with one hand tied behind.

Which makes it highly likely that in 2027 (or earlier), PiS wins the election again and forms a government with the help of far-right Konfederacja, which gained a lot in the recent couple of years. It would be back to pre-2023 Poland, both less bad and more bad in some aspects.

It's not guaranteed, because a lot can change in 2 years - some coalition of (parts of) PO and Konfederacja is not impossible - but it's the most likely scenario at this moment by far. So now for 2 years we still have this wide center coalition, but a "lame duck" one, conflicted, and kinda doomed…

One consolation is that PiS and Konfa don't actually have that many things in common. PiS's main theme in 2015-23 was statism, concentrating power in the state & state companies, stuffing their friends/family everywhere, adding new taxes and social spending. Konfa is the polar opposite of that.

Sort of, except as mentioned, he doesn't have nearly as much power, mostly representative + veto power. The big problem is cutting off options for the current government, which is further increasing the chances of a very right-wing government after 2027

It's such a shame. Poland was on route to take leadership in Europe while Germany and France keep on dropping the ball constantly. This will make that happening quite a bit more difficult :/
