I taught on a screenwriting course for novelists when the final season of Ted Lasso was out. All upper middle class people who could easily afford tv subs. Used some script pages in the class. Not a single person had even heard of it.
Currently halfway through Peter Biskind’s latest and it’s exactly this. Picking up shows that were too expensive for HBO because the budget is a rounding error for Apple
It’s amazing really. The whole premise of Apple from day one was ‘it just works’ and easy user interface. Apple TV had great content but the app is hot garbage.
Can’t even tell you how bad it screwed up my music catalog. iTunes literally pushed me to say fuck it and pay for Spotify. Literally walked away from my music collection.
The most incredible tv at the moment. But the app is dogshit. We have to reinstall it on our smart tv almost every time we use it and turn the subtitles off every time too. Worth it for Severance alone tho
It's that thing of loving a show and knowing that loving the show makes you part of this huge and diverse global community of people who share that love.
I fucking hate that.
That's why I watch Apple TV.
Silo, Bad Sisters, Loot, and Shrinking are in my top 10 current shows. I'm trying to convince people to dump Netflix and sign on to Apple TV+ because Apple TV doesn't treat us, the viewer, like idiots.
And then they cancel them because no one is watching. Will never get over the cancelling of Time Bandits. Hardly anyone even knows it exists, and it's so good!
Oh thank gods, I've found at least three people I can rave about Silo and Severance, and mebbe get a bit marked about choices made in For All Mankind, with.
They're using "manned" STILL in S4. In our less socially advanced timeline, where Sally Ride was the first female American astronaut in the early 80s, and the first Black US astro didn't go up until the flight after her, Nasa had started using "crewed" by then.
I think Ed is definitely a “manned” man… whose career appears to be lasting well past retirement, and with blithe disregard for the chaos his actions cause. I was *kinda* rooting for NASA last series.
They have probably hung in to him for longer than they should but I think dramatically he represents the through line from the very first episode - the world changes around him but he's always the same.
For a full two years I was convinced Ed was going to go out hard, like so many other characters. The longer the show goes, the more I’m sure, as an avatar of everything discussed here, he’s going to go out small
Ed may well be, but Dani and Molly aren't, in either sense. I can almost forgive Ellen using it when she does because of her position, but its wider use feels oddly retrograde in such an otherwise forward-looking timeline.
I also have questions about Kelly Baldwin's storyline. Trying to avoid spoilers... I find it odd that with mixed crews and so many more women in the administration, there seems to have been a lack of thought about how to deal with periods etc.
I'm also fuming about [redacted] not surviving [redacted] but that's more that I loved them to bits. Absolutely right for their character, and a fitting memorial, but bah 😉
It's great. I subscribe when there are a few shows (Or Slow Horses has a new season) and then I unsubcribe and then subscribe again. They have top shows but not enough to satisfy my binge watching. I'm currently rewatching The Good Wife
GW is a good show. I got through the end of season five before it didn't hold my interest anymore. Let me know if I missed something awesome in seasons 6 or 7.
I did it the other way around. Watched S1 and most of S2 before starting the 1st book. Just watched the S2 finale today and it was excellent. Honestly didn’t want it to end and now I have a big gap to fill. Giving Severance a go.
The premise didn’t really appeal, but after the first episode I’m hooked. This is a theme for me. I wasn’t really interested in Silo either, until I started watching it.
You're absolutely right about Apple! So many shows I've enjoyed, not least Foundation, Slow Horses, Severance and Ted Lasso. Silo's a great story about community in isolation - I hope you enjoy both novels and series!
Cannot WAIT for the next series!!! I love for all mankind too. And...oh god now my brain is blank and I cannot think of a single show hahaha but loads.
IMHO it’s the worst streaming service with the most limited choices. I cancelled it. I had it for months. There was only one series I looked forward to. They want 19.95 for movies like Oppenheimer. that were free on Peacock.
Got a free trial until April & been watching Ted Lasso …loved it! And don’t get me started on Buccaneers. Not sure it’s historically accurate but great for entertainment value!

Literally the dream - we have so much money we can just make whatever we want and it doesn't matter if it's successful or not

The end of season 2, I was cheering like the superbowl!
Yes, I'm weird.
I fucking hate that.
That's why I watch Apple TV.
Netflix is a perennial pain.
MAX - what was HBO is a maze with dead ends everywhere.
