Some writers need someone to tell them NO and resist some of their bad narrative urges. Some writers need someone to tell them YES and push them to do what they really want to do.

One of the reasons I'd like for editors to be more upfront on book promos.
Like the movies use 'From the producers of X' and 'Director of the hit Y'. Chances are I'm going to like the other books an editor has steared into print.
I'm definitely the latter! I'm working with someone on my novel and they've told me multiple times, "You can take this further. We can explore this a whole lot more." I suspect it's because I'm so used to shorter fiction.
I'm glad you've got your YES person! And yes, if you're an under-writer/short fic writer, needing a shove to develop things in more detail sounds helpful!
I'm slowly learning that! I think I'm still quite cautious because it's my first novel, but I'm at least aware that I wanna do things in a way that feels right to me, so I'm feeling a little bit freer the more I work on it.

That means because we sat next to each other at Stratford Library, I can say I've had a close encounter of the third kind.
Who needs editors!
