Also, the election already happened. The Liberals don’t need to be in campaign mode tip-toeing around wealthy homeowners’ property values. They need to be in “fixing our biggest problems head on” mode.

In the 2017 B.C. election, the NDP said increasing home prices was out of control and they would "moderate the market."
They won the election.
Then they had a bunch of clear policies to lower home values, and as prices fell, they said the market still needed to be moderated.
They won re-election.

I think some sort of modernized version of the housing act needs to be reimplemented,
It was dismantled for ideological reasons that was one the biggest mistakes made by Jean Chrétien.
A competent NDP or CPC less tolerant of its fringe can theoretically get my vote in that scenario!
Housing prices is an emergency. We need to bring them down, and if that hurts retirements then mitigate that with aRRSP expansion or CPP increases. Go fast and break things or we fail by default.
Pefab approved buildings will help, but zoning will always be a problem. noone wants to live 2 hours from work. we need homes where the jobs are.
Happy to see my home value fall though. It's a place to live, not my retirement plan.
