but the psychiatrist said that the fact that I answered about a third of the questions all scattered around the pages on the pre-appt questionnaire was a major confirmation of diagnosis.
I’m so glad it went smoothly for you. My therapist can’t diagnose—she’s a trauma specialist. But she encouraged me to go in and try and get a referral because she’s recognized a lot of things and we’ve done screeners.
Unfortunately the psychologist I met with took one look at my form and said it, “oh, you have a PTSD diagnosis. It’s probably that.” Then proceeded to complain about people getting diagnosed by TikTok and spent several minutes discouraging me from a referral.
Ugh, I'm so sorry. I'm very aware of how lucky I am to have gotten my ADHD diagnosis as a side effect of my neurological shit.
(And now I want to imagine the next person who gets that psychologist's TikTok rant to respond "TikTok? What's that? A what? How does that even work?")
It wasn’t great. She complained about how the system was all clogged up because of it and…my dudes, that’s partially because so many people are undiagnosed? Anyway, I don’t remember the rest of the appointment. I kind of shut down and then cried in the car. Which…I’m not a cryer. So 🤷♀️
I was supposed to go back and see that lady but my therapist told me to cancel that appt and never go back to her. She was livid about how I was treated.
But it makes me really, really happy to hear stories where people got actual support. So glad you did.
