Not going to kick up a big fuss over Gage Workman, but it is somewhat baffling to keep Ryan Kreidler, among others, on the 40 rather than protecting Gage. Either way, Tigers infield depth is in a bad place this year. Maybe Eddys Leonard can help a bit. Hao-Yu Lee really should be at 1B/2B. - ThreadSky

I don’t disagree with reloading the farm system with talented guys but they really did and up targeting a bunch of guys with the same defensive ceiling (3B/2B who should end up at 1B)

He doesn't but that's why you don't protect him in the first place. You DFA him to protect Gage instead. If as the offseason unfolds you don't need Gage as depth or need the spot to sign someone else and want to cut him, so be it.

I guess my point is, both players are likely to be exposed to other clubs. Workman in the Rule 5, Kreidler through waivers. With Workman, you have the chance to claw him back if he drops from the active roster. Lose Kreidler on waivers, he's gone for good.

I'd argue this is the better option

Agreed! So let him be the one exposed to waivers, and let Workman get claimed in the Rule 5 with a chance to get him back if he doesn't make the team in Chicago

Yeah, Ryan "Pylon" Kriedler was a baffling keep to me. No idea how you can look at his body of work last year and see anything worth putting on the 40-man.

Then again, I've doubted this front office and been wrong before...
