@rachel-aaron.bsky.social & @scalzi.com I am finally attempting to put my stories down and finish them. Any suggestions for a new author on writing or submissions or anything of the sort?

That's a very broad question! My biggest suggestion is to write what makes you happy. When you've got something you're proud of, you can decide what to do with it. If they're short stories, there's lots of magazines you can submit to.
If it turns into a long story, there's always a market for novels! The most important thing is to not get too caught up in publication before you're done writing. You only get to be a new writer once, and worrying about the business too early can ruin the fun.
Once your work is finished to your liking, that's when it's time to take a look at what you've got and decide what publishing path best fits your goals. Good luck with your work! Have fun writing!
