ok my honest to god opinion abt trigun is that its not the best manga/story in the world but i like it cuz imo its very sincere in its exploration of repentance, and the exploration of spirituality/faith that isnt preachy and overbearing (esp considering its overt christian themes) - ThreadSky

im not religious btw lmao but i love when stories explore themes of repentance. in western media its almost always an individualistic antihero story (guy did bad thing, guy must repent), but in trigun its more nuanced and explores how to repent for things "larger" than the actions of one guy

ugh im no good w words but i think abt the way NT never shies away from showing truly terrible humans (eg: legatos backstory), its not cut and dry good v evil, very much wanting to ask the question "who truly has a point here, knives or vash" and also showing the consequences of holding either view

SO LIKE 2 me idgaf that there is strawberry shortcake in gunsmoke LMAO, idgaf that NT went w the easy "british imperialism" architecture and didnt spend time fleshing out the world building. could it have been better??? sure??? but kinda not the point of the story idk

so true!! sure yeah, i gripe a lil that we dont know more lore or worldbuilding, or why there's salmon, but it was more of a Want instead of a need, because trigun's high points were always the characters

i am nodding a lot to all of this! it ends up leaving room for the reader too, in a lot of different ways, to see and engage with that sincere vision. it doesnt feel cordoned off the way a "perfect" story/world can

It’s a very character-driven and character-exploratory story, which are always my personal favorites!! Feels like the world building is really only there so long as it’s in service to the characters, and after that it doesn’t matter as much bc it really isn’t the point of the story

BIG AGREE i think NT is rly good at like. focusing on what his priorities are & really committing to them. i think other authors sometimes try to worldbuild in ways that r both frustrating And excessive - w trigun it rly feels like if it matters its explored & if it doesnt its not. which i respect

also like. as far as shounen and its similar genre brethren goes, i always have so many questions & hangups w most series' morality / character motives, but like trimax p much always sticks the landing for me on that, its amazing

yes yes, in other media the "good" characters will do something with honestly horrific consequences but its ok bc in story logic those ppl were Bad and protag is Good. which is some lazy ass writing LMAO. trigun delivers some nuance and explores the grey areas and i love NT for that ❤️
