yeah I've been playing through the original originals for the first time because the PR's of 1-3 have just been... really disappointing to me, and I really like all 3 on the famicom a lot. I think I like FF2 the least of that trilogy but it's really not that far behind at all.

Oh, the other part is that these Youtubers usually only play the Pixel Remasters for the old FFs...and FF3 PR gave way more HP to all the bosses in the final dungeon for some bizarre reason. So if the gimmicks don't make you miserable in a challenge, the endgame definitely will!

Seriously, i have yet to find a single challenge vid of FF3 where the player doesn't bitch about the game throughout. It's still quite highly-regarded overall in Japan, so the contrast is jarring to me

Yup, can't say enough great things about this game. It's definitely hostile, but there are *absolutely* workarounds, and loads of different ways to experience new and interesting challenges.
