saw someone confusion, this is (was?) the feature that let you get the actual file for your ebook off your kindle and onto a computer the 2024/2025 gen kindles shipped without this option afaik

Here's another reason for indie authors to ditch Amazon and switch to another platform like itch.io.
Amazon is supposedly getting rid of the "download & transfer via USB option" for ebooks at the end of the month.
Buy a Kobo or a Nook if you want more accessibility and control over your media.
