Dilating is a process in which those who've received Gender Affirming Surgery, to change their genitals from a penis to a vagina, use round plastic rods, called dilators, to ensure that they can maintain good internal depth and diameter during the healing process, due to the constriction it brings.

I would imagine it's possibly because it's not overtly horny that it's not a typical subject to see.

I actually don't think I've seen a ton of post-op bottom surgery in art, let alone anything with the zero-depth variety

As far as not seeing much dilating in art, like I said I do get it. Both "not overtly horny", and a very personal subject (potentially touchy too). But at the same time I've seen people be into a *lot* of things (lest we forget Rule 36). So a little surprising.

"Post-bottom surgery in art" certainly isn't *super* common, but I think it also flies under the radar because it's often hard to tell without context. If you miss being told that the character is trans, and the piece isn't dealing with something like dilation or pregnancy or w/e, could you tell?

Was debating whether or not to include this too, but I think it's worth observing that I also know several trans women with nominally cis (or ambiguously cis/trans) characters. I can definitely see an impulse among the people for whom this would be relevant (*cough* hi) to show an "idealized" self.

I've surmised that given people use art as escapism, sticking to reality isn't a requirement.

Therefore, even if gender affirming surgery is a thing is folks' headcanons, the need to dilate - which is ultimately a commitment - might not be seen as a good thing that's necessarily worth celebrating.

I get why this is, but people asking about it also highlights the lack of awareness that this brings about.

Being trans is a whole package, and I think we should be able to celebrate it as an intimate a part of our transition. It feels more significant than its representation in art would suggest.

It's all preference, ultimately, and I get that people would rather focus on the more joyful aspects than what might feel more mundane.

As a porn artist, that's just what I think given the kind of things that people gravitate towards.

Tangentially (because this whole thing has me thinking), I think the whole thing of escapism vs. reality is part of why I have so many characters. Some who are cis, a couple who are trans/gnc but not "in conflict" about it, and now one who's explicitly my way of exploring/depicting the *work* of it.
