Let alone those of us who know quite well we were downwind from a major copper smelter for decades and that we and every other person within 10 miles would need a couple feet of new topsoil first

Any country that used leaded gasoline, or that shares airspace or water sources with a country that used leaded gasoline, needs AT MINIMUM lead testing of any topsoil that you’re planning to extract edible food from

My house was built when lead paint was still in use! I’m not going to worry about fruit or nut trees, but veggies will go in a platform/raised bed

Yeah, anything where the edible part isn’t separated from the actual dirt by a whole-ass trunk should be in at minimum *tested* dirt

If you can swing it it might not be the worst idea to test a few samples off your trees too tbh
