I read "Nice Prison" chapter 2 to see if it fixed the timing/paneling... and they did! The jokes are landing on the expected panels for the comedy pacing. So maybe the first chapter just went through too many rewrites and messed up that needed rhythm?

Always grateful that Viz picks up every new series in Weekly Shonen Jump that comes out.
But "Nice Prison" just isn't for me. I tend to enjoy most of the gag manga series, but this is just off. The paneling for hitting the punchlines is bad. Paneling is the rhythm for comedy in manga.
