I don't know Spanish so I had to look it up. "Papas" means potatoes, and "papa" means father. Thus the joke.

My mom was Italian and we spent a month every summer with her family. Because “Mom” became “Mama” I called my dad “ Papa” , much to the amusement of my cousins.
