I had the same experience, and I still like it after discovering it was related to aliens. It was a really unique and interesting side of the alien franchise. It's not perfect, but it's not nearly as awful as covenant.

I agree, it was a bit of a freshness and mystique compared to the rest of the franchise. I think covenant backtracked that a bit but I still wish they had made the third one, the evil robot was such a good character.

Agreed. It was the mystery that uplifted it, but I'm thankful for that. I really made me appreciate the film.
