Biden failed at many things but he made a major break with Clintonite free trade and especially Obama's pint-sized stimulus policy and got basically no credit for it. Not Great for the prospects of future full employment

Probably a different subject than what was in the posts. I'm wondering, even if people embraced econ policy by Biden, would it still be viewed as a failure by politicians if they view it through electoral incentives or maybe they won't link them.

It's true that Biden didn't get credit for what he did, and inflation hurt him, but I believe it is likely if he just had taken the actions he actually did take on asylum, but 18-24 months earlier, Harris would have won. He simply did not deal with a problem that had high salience.

While I don’t disagree that much that was good got overlooked I think it’s also fair to say that the lack of progress on the big-ticket items in many people’s financial lives (housing, health care, and education) make it tough to focus on anything else at times

Do you know how many attempts were made at any type of healthcare before the ACA passed?

He did try to do some things, especially around student loans. Just pointing out that ignoring the how and why and only focusing on the ultimate outcome isn’t really something that just exists on the left. It’s how most of this country looks at things. And it’s not entirely unfair.

It was more complicated than that. Some of Biden's biggest defenders were on the left. Chapo openly called him the best president in a long time! Until oct 7. It is true that people on the left backported complaints after that break but we can't ignore that oct 7 was the trigger.

It was incredibly depressing how many leftists started talking like Tea Partiers about inflation, that was depressing, but the truly horrifying thing was those 6 months where centrist media reported on full employment as a "labor shortage" to no pushback from anyone, anywhere.

I spent time carefully explaining full employment/Bidenomics/resulting inflation to like minded blue voting friends & it surprised me how basic Econ escapes most people (even those who care!)

Americans are simply conditioned to be comfortable with 5% unemployment. Life is easier for the other 95%
