more importantly, it does not scale. you can only ask so many questions, of relatively low complexity. it is harder (though not impossible!) to form a romantic or other deep attachment to the planchette

That's a... completely different discussion? Regardless of their utility or worthiness they function very differently than a database. LLMs process and interact with text information in a mechanically different way than previously existing technology. That's not a value judgement, it's just true

i disagree, i find the technology itself very impressive tbh. it took some specific innovations to be able to even build models this big.

i don't think i could be convinced by one single thing, since it's easy to overtrain a model like this to do a little party trick. but i think i would be impressed at least if i could see it translate (or at least make note of) things like jokes and wordplay, especially if it involves niche subjects
