Over the past weeks I've had 2 major grants terminated, from EPA and NSF. Over $1 million of funding for human-enviro geography research lost. These terminations have negative impacts for myself, my graduate students, my university, community partners, and society. #withoutNSF #geosky 1/9 🧪

1. Abrupt grant terminations are wasteful: we are in the middle of collecting and analyzing data. Stopping before we fully analyze data and share it means that already-invested resources will be wasted.

2. Data collection and analysis will be stopped. Work with community organizations will be abruptly halted, and planned outreach activities to share what we have learned will not occur.

3. Currently employed graduate students will lose their employment. Their ability to complete their degrees will be compromised. They may be forced to halt their education altogether. They may lose health insurance.

4. My university is a minority-serving institution and a key part of Oregon’s public higher education system; these terminations take away much-needed funding that supports our university and its mission.

5. Advisory Boards formed for the projects will not be able to provide an evaluation of the project, reducing our ability to inform future research efforts.
