The whole old age dependancy ratio/too heavy age profile is just one aspect of all this. And there’s dozens more. Take foreign students coming here, and the revenue they generate. Make this a hostile country, and that dries up.
The thing is previously you were saying the trajectory is bad,but you’ve acknowledged that we need migration.I think the point is this is a hugely complex issue, but certain people with loud voices are trying to stir up fear and hate, which helps none of us normal folks.
It does feel like that I agree. What with Donald Trump and Farage. It feels like we are heading down a dark path. They are both creating a lot of hostility.
Is it?How do you know?Forgetting the provisional figures show a fairly hefty fall. How can you or I say what is a suitable trajectory? This is a hugely complex issue, with many variables. There are no simple answers or platitudes. We have an explosion of baby boomers reaching 61-79 years.
That’s a colossal shift in the old age dependancy ratio. There’s now far fewer tax paying age people for every OAP. The only way to rebalance that is with a sudden influx of young, healthy, tax paying, net contributors. We can’t breed them into existence very quickly.
