To me the two approach social situations too differently for a romantic relationship to really get off the ground; Rarity is naturally more keen and involved while Twilight’s is more learned and detached.

Then again I haven’t read The Enchanted Library.

Rarity is a commoner who aspires to high society. Twilight was born into high society but is completely apathetic to it.

The two are perfect foils for each other. This goes double when Twilight becomes a princess. It's a dynamic that's ripe for exploration.
