For the non-artists: there's a reason the fans had a hard time making 3D models from the G4 sprites. They simply don't map onto a 3D object. The eye spacing and muzzle are just totally different when somepony is spiking the camera vs in profile. They have a unique config for 3/4 angles as well.

It’s common for characters that are designed to be seen from a certain angle to have their heads or other features morph so they still look okay from other angles
