My boss was obsessed with making sure we were picture perfect through micromanagement. I had to submit weekly accountability emails stating what I worked on that week (Elon that you?) I had to log my time, accounting for every minute to a project, not once but 2-3 times a week.

If you billed to overhead you were questioned. Overtime was practically compulsory if you wanted to succeed and be seen as a valued employee. We worked 3-10 demanding projects at a time. Often people were working above and beyond their job title/work description…

Emails and work on weekends was common place. I worked holidays, birthdays, nights, weekends. I put relationships second. I put my health second. I let the job rule my life. It burnt me out…

individuals who seemed to enjoy their jobs. I never ran into an issue where I needed to communicate with them on weekends or evenings. There was no reason for either of us to be working those hours. They had the work/life balance I always looked for in a job.

When DOGEy came in and started saying the government need to work like the private sector I ask why? Why do any of us need to work like the private sector? It’s toxic and demeaning. The public sector sets boundaries that respects people’s time and the public’s money.
