I am a huge Oz fan and didn't come together IMO - don't feel it captured the spirit of the story, which is scary because the deaths truly could be ordinary events rather than these elaborate, comedic Rube Goldberg setpieces, and the very "fakeness," twins, silly effects, tone, style - a miss

I enjoyed it. I’m glad I saw it in theater. I wasn’t a fan of the look of the film but that’s true of most newer movies for me. Interesting premise for sure. Great kills. A little too much CGI. Overall great movie. But I did prefer Heart Eyes

I loved the irreverence of The Monkey. The death scenes were awesome, but the dark humor was what got me. It didn’t take itself too seriously—a refreshing change from all of the trauma horror. And I love grief-drenched horror. But The Monkey was just a good time.

Oh don’t get me wrong—I love trauma horror. Grief driven horror has given us a lot of solid performances and scares these last 5-10 years especially. But sometimes I like something fun sprinkled in the mix.

It was a fun movie, and it didn’t take itself too seriously.

My kids loved it (13 and 23).

Probably one of the better shows we have watched in the theatre since Abigail.

We went and watched Until Dawn last week and that was a movie that took itself a little too seriously. There was a lot of chances to poke a little fun at itself. All in all it was a decent watch. Clown in a Cornfield is up next. 😃

I really enjoyed it, but it was tonally imbalanced. It began with fark grief and victimisation then shifted to black humour. If they were going for the latter throughout, they missed the mark initially, but absolutely nailed the landing.

I really liked it. I went in cold because now days if you watch the trailer you've watched the film. Took me a little while to settle into it, once I realised it was a dark comedy it all came together for me. It's something in a few months I will re-watch.
